I'm a musician and musicologist living in Toronto, Ontario. I play acoustic and electric guitar and I sing. These days, I specialize in prewar jazz and blues, performing solo and with my band the Hogtown Syncopators, who released a CD in February 2007. I also tour the U.S. and Canada with Jeff Healey's Jazz Wizards, the Jeff Healey Blues Band and Classic Albums Live. I released CDs of original music in 1996 and 2000. In past years, I recorded and performed with the Killjoys, Uncle Violet, Rita Chiarelli, Suzie Vinnick, Simply Saucer, Rapid Transit and hundreds of other acts.

I also hold a Ph.D in musicology from York University and have published articles on the music of Patti Smith, Bob Dylan and others. I teach music history and theory at Harris Institute and York University, and have taught courses at McMaster University, the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo. My Ph.D dissertation deals with early histories of rock and roll, and my Master's thesis, on Bob Dylan's vocal performances, won the 1998 York thesis prize.
